Black Chefs Collaborative
Created as part of the Sacramento Juneteenth, Inc.’s health/wellness component, Sacramento Juneteenth Black Chefs Collaborative is a collection of Sacramento’s finest chefs dedicated to showcasing the quality, sophistication and healthy alternatives of Black Cuisine
In addition, the collaborative was created as a mechanism for inclusion in Sacramento’s Farm 2 Fork programming. Sacramento Juneteenth, Inc. produces educational and health/wellness events throughout the year. The Juneteenth Black Chefs Collaborative provides meals for all Juneteenth events.
Golf Tournament
On Saturday, 12:30 pm Sacramento’s true golf warriors will gather to take on the beautiful 9-holes of William Land Park Golf Course. The Juneteenth Golf tournament serves as a fundraiser for the Juneteenth Scholarship fund. The tournament is a best ball format with prizes for hole in one, longest drive and closest to the pin. Juneteenth Ball
The Sacramento Juneteenth Ball is a food and wine tasting event presented by Sacramento Juneteenth, Inc. and the Sacramento Juneteenth Black Chefs Collaborative (SJBCC). The Ball serves as the official Gala of this year’s 20th Annual Juneteenth Festival. The Juneteenth Ball is designed to spotlight the region’s finest Black chefs and wineries. The event will feature wine tastings and food pairings by the SJBCC. SJBCC was created to include/showcase Sacramento’s Black Chefs as part Sacramento’s Farm 2 Fork initiative.
Juneteenth Talent Show
Do you have what it takes? Then audition to perform in the Juneteenth Talent Show. The talent show will showcase some of Sacramento’s most talented singers, poets, dancers, talented people in general. The top 10 performers are selected by judges. The Talent show takes place at Saturdays festival in the park on the main stage in front of nearly 8,000 attendees. Celebrity judges will select the winner. The winner will be awarded a trophy and given automatic entry into the next years show. For those who are not selected to compete in the talent show will perform on the Promote the Peace Stage, our second stage. A component of the Festival’s mission is to offer the opportunity to perform during the festival. See talent show registration above.
Emancipation Parade
Saturday’s festivities begin with the Juneteenth Parade. More than twenty organizations (100 participants) are scheduled to participate. The parade will feature American History themed floats, marching bands, drill teams, car/motorcycle clubs, fraternities, sororities, the Buffalo Soldiers and President Abraham Lincoln has been spotted.
The parade component represents when the enslaved paraded around the plantations in celebration after hearing of their freedom. The fashion show represents the former enslaved taking their former en-slavers clothes and parading around in them in celebration of being freed. As part of the Juneteenth celebration, they played team sports, some say baseball like sports or other ball games. Historically there were always discussions by the group regarding current issues that affected them.
Festival in the Park
Saturday’s festivities begin with the Juneteenth Parade. More than twenty organizations (100 participants) are scheduled to participate. The parade will feature American History themed floats, marching bands, drill teams, car/motorcycle clubs and much more. Saturday will also feature live musical performances by Sacramento’s most talented musicians, food and ware vendors, on-site health examinations, poetry, theater performances, essay contests and the Health/wellness Pavilion. A key component of the festival is the Juneteenth Educational Theater. Admission is free for the event.
Friday Night Gospel
The Friday night “Gospel Under the Stars” concert features some of Sacramento’s best gospel artists. In an evening setting “Under the Stars” in the Amphitheater near the pond of William Land park, A high powered gospel concert take place. The free concert is a two hour affair. The concert featured many of Sacramento’s local church choirs and other talented gospel groups. Past participants include, Ascension, Ryan Oliver, Yardley Griffin and James Jackson. 6:00 -9:00 p.m.
